Vintage 1940s CC41 Stamped Oak Tallboy Cupboard

A smart, no-nonsense tallboy dresser with so much history and charm, it hails from the 1940s and is British in origin. It comes CC stamped, which stands for Commodity Controlled, made to comply with the war-time and post-war utility scheme. This was at a time when resources, like wood, were scarce but the demand for essential domestic goods like clothes and furniture continued. They had to be manufactured to strict austerity guidelines. Solidly crafted in oak, it’s already lasted a lifetime but has many more years of service to offer. Originally intended for the bedroom, wherever this piece goes, in whichever room, it will provide welcome, generous storage. You can pack a great deal into its cupboard and drawers. It would be as at home loaded with linen as it would as a larder in the kitchen.

Description

This is an original, used piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, vintage condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out but otherwise the finish is original and as such comes with some marks, knocks and fading which can be seen across our photos. The two upper drawers slide with ease, are very well-made with dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors. The lower double door cupboard also has a clean interior, along with a fixed shelf. The doors are securely attached with hinges, handles and closures in good working order. The top surface has taken the brunt of the wear and tear as shown and the original varnish finish is a little patchy here and there but overall this is minor and in line with its age. It’s not very noticeable – please view our photos. It’s a well-made, CC41 stamped utility piece that’s solid and stable with no repairs or areas of concern. No maker’s mark but British in origin.
