Vintage Table Top Collector’s Cabinet with Removable Drawers
What a beautiful, old thing this table top cabinet is and something of a curiosity too. Open the two top doors to reveal four removable drawers with brass inset handles. And within each red-felt lined drawer is a further felt-lined removable tray. What was it made for? Is it a Japanese sewing box? Was it made to house jewellery or watches – each section can be locked? Is it a collector’s cabinet, custom-made for stowing precious treasures and specimens? It’s very skilfully crafted with a carcass of solid wood, ply doors and oak drawers . Someone has poured a lot of love, effort and time into making this cabinet. The lower cupboard has a single, drop-down door and adding further to its intrigue, there are pull-out, iron arms underneath. Again, we can’t fathom what purpose these would have served. No matter though, because unusual pieces from the past like this can be repurposed in many ways, finding a new use and life in pretty much any room of the home. A fantastic find and useful storage cabinet.

Description
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. It has been cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood. The upper section features two locking doors and inside are four removable, red felt lined drawers with brass inset handles at the front. Within each drawer there is a further felt-lined tray with small brass handles at either side. All interiors are very clean and tidy. The lower cupboard features a single, lockable fall door. There are two cast iron extending runners underneath the cabinet. It’s designed to sit on the table top. There are minor scuffs and knocks to the exterior wood surfaces but overall this is light.
