Vintage Meredew Dressing Table with Drawers in Oak
Meredew made affordable domestic furniture for the British home. Well-made, using good quality veneered oak and solid oak, this dressing table has some fantastic features. The centred, oval handles, the double bank of graduated drawers, the edges, the H-form of the cylindrical legs. It’s a well-balanced piece too with those long legs creating open space around it, a trick that makes a large items of furniture less cumbersome. The mirror can be easily removed by unscrewing the brackets if you wished to just use the drawers… although in our view the mirror is the star turn here with a very rounded curves and its adjustable tilt. A very fine British piece that looks fresh and contemporary.
Description
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces. All six drawers slide with ease and have clean, tidy interiors. The drawers are very well made with dovetail joins and handles securely attached. There are scuffs and marks to the exterior finish, primarily on the top surface – please refer to our photos to get a good sense of this. The mirror can be angled by gently pulling the bottom of the frame. The hinges for this are in good, working order. As you can see in our photos, there is some light degradation / aging to the mirror on one side. It doesn’t hamper its function as a mirror. The maker’s label can be seen in one of the drawers. It’s stable and solid, well-made and with no signs of repair.
