Vintage G Plan Fresco Shelf Wall Unit with Bureau & Drawers

Add a good sprinkle of ‘retro’ to a room with this tall, multifunctional midcentury piece. Instantly recognisable as G Plan, it was part of their Fresco range, designed by VB Wilkins and in production from the late sixties into the seventies. This particular freestanding wall unit features a large bureau work station, a chest of drawers and curved cupboard, along with shelves for display. It’s comprised of four parts – two upper sections which sit on two base units – and you have the option to put the curved end of either side. It comes in super original condition and it’s a British midcentury classic.

Description

This is an original, vintage unit that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. It’s a four part, freestanding piece where the two upper shelf sections rest on the base units. Brackets and screws are provided to secure the upper units to the bases. The left upper unit in our photo features a large, fall-door bureau with a pigeon hole section inside which can be removed. All hinges, handles, closures and interiors are in good order. The shelf above the bureau is adjustable. The left base unit features three drawers which slide with ease and have clean interiors with light marks from use. The top drawer is sectioned. The curved end pieces have two adjustable shelves and one fixed. The curved base cupboard is tidy inside with light marks from use. Handles, hinges and closures are in good order. There are some light knocks and scuffs to the exterior surfaces and shelf tops (we’ve shown the very top of the left upper unit which is rather marked but of course when in situ this doesn’t show) but overall this is minor – please refer to our photos. Obviously you could opt to swap which side the curved unit goes on. Overall, the wear and tear is light and in line with what we might expect with a vintage piece of this age and nature. G Plan labels can be seen in various places. It’s well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. Do browse our numerous photos for an accurate sense of colour and condition.
