Vintage Ercol Model 361 ‘Baby Giraffe’ Trolley Bookcase
The much sought-after and highly prized Ercol Windsor ‘Baby Giraffe’ mobile bookcase, Model 361. This iconic piece was designed by Lucian Ercolani in the late fifties and and manufactured in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire specifically between 157 – 1972. Made in solid British elm with beech legs and uprights, there are two tiers of open shelving for books, plants or displaying your treasures. It sits on its original castors so can be moved into position wherever it’s needed and can serve as a low, neat space divider. Beautifully crafted with trademark Ercol details including hammer shaft joints and beech spindle bars. This is a truly stylish item of heirloom, mid-century furniture.
Description
This is an original, used piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in excellent, restored, vintage condition. The solid elm shelves and beech uprights have been thoroughly cleaned and then carefully restored – a slow, patient process that involves gentle sanding back the original finish before coats of satin Osmo oil are applied. It’s then been polished to give a hard-wearing, durable finish. The original castors are on good order with some aging patination to the metal (see our photos) but they move freely. It is solid and sturdy with no evidence of any damage or repair. Sadly there is no maker’s label but this is very much an Ercol original and it dates from the 1960s.
