Vintage Danish 1960s Ansager Mobler Large Extending Dining Table

A fine example of the Danish midcentury aesthetic of perfectly balanced form and function, this dining table comes with great provenance. Made by Ansager Møbler (also known as AM Møbler) in teak, it’s clean-lined, sleek and stylish with softened edges, subtle curves and tapered legs. It converts to a very large dining table with two ‘hidden’ leaves that sit discreetly underneath the main table top when not in use. These are pulled out and flattened from either end, taking a six seater table up to one that could accommodate eight-ten diners. You can also opt to just use one of the extensions, making with a versatile table with three different widths.

Description

This authentic, vintage dining table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. The table has been cleaned and a natural polish applied. The two leaf extensions cleverly sit underneath the main table top. They are pulled into position at either end, sliding out and flattening as they go. The extensions are in excellent order. As is often the way with extending tables, the extension pieces, used less frequently, retain their original colour and show less signs of wear and sunlight fading, and that is the case here. Compared to the main table top, the leaves are almost flawless. We have completed a partial restoration by refinishing the main table top (please forgive our unstyled photos showing this). This involved careful sanding, layers of high-grade oil and a wax polish to give a hard-wearing, durable finish. There are minor scuffs and knocks here and there to the edges and legs but this is in line with its age and use, and there is nothing specific to call out. Overall the table is very well made with no wobbles, repairs or joint concerns. Although no maker’s mark, this is a well-documented, attributed piece made by AM Ansager Mobler and it dates from the 1960s.
