Vintage Danish 1950s Red Velvet Armchair with Fringing
Staying true to our ethos of acquiring pieces we would love in our own home, we rather fell in love with this pretty, vintage armchair. Something of a departure from our usual classic, leather midcentury seats, this Danish piece heralds from the 1950s, most likely the early part of the decade. The cherry red velvet does carry some signs of wear and tear but it’s still soft and plush with much to offer. We think it’s in great condition given its considerable years. With neat proportions, vibrant colour and grand, elegant details, it would be perfect to cheer up a dull bedroom, study or hallway with its faded glamour. And it’s really comfortable too with a sprung seat cushion giving buoyancy and support, and long, rolled arms.

Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have given the chair a thorough vacuum but have otherwise left the upholstery alone. As you can see from our photos, the original red velvet is a little worn in places. It’s not threadbare and there’s much life left in this hard-wearing fabric but there are signs of aging / use. We’ve also shown some wear to the piping on the edge of the seat cushion. All the authentic studs are securely fixed in place. The decorative fringe at the base is also securely attached and in good order with no strands frayed or missing. The cushion itself is sprung so very comfortable and its zip is in good, working order. The underside of the cushion shows a floral fabric so the cushion can be turned to suit. The chair frame is structurally sound and solid with no signs of repair. It was imported directly from Denmark and the style and build lead us to believe it most likely dates from the 1950s.
