Vintage 1970s Two Tier Barrister’s Glass Front Stacking Bookcase
In the tradition of Globe Wernicke and Gunn & Angus, this more contemporary barrister’s stacking bookcase is smart and efficient. There are two bookcase sections, one slightly taller than the other. With glass front doors that lift up and slide back, it’s ideal for displaying precious books and treasures, keeping the dust at bay. Although there is a top and shallow base here (it’s a four-part piece), our hunch is originally this was a larger unit with more sections and perhaps legs. That said, we like that this configuration is compact and with proportions that would sit neatly by a chair.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have given the bookcase a thorough check and clean inside and out but otherwise the finish is original and in sound order. It’s comprised of four sections – top, two bookcases and base. These components simply stack on top of each other with no tools or fixing required. The glass doors lift up and slide back. All mechanisms / hinges work with ease and the glass panels are in very good order. There are some light marks from use on the interiors and the same can be said for the exterior surfaces too – just minor, superficial signs of wear and tear but nothing to flag. Do browse our photos. There is no maker’s mark sadly but it emulates the stacking bookcases of Gunn & Angus, Lebus and of course, Globe Wernicke.
