Vintage 1970s Teak ‘Stateroom’ Sideboard by Stonehill Furniture
A substantial 1970s sideboard from Stonehill Furniture as part of its ‘Stateroom’ range and it certainly does just that with a width of over 1.8m. There’s no mistaking its midcentury origins but it stays just on the right side of retro without being kitsch. Very nicely constructed and with just light signs of its former life, it gives masses of useful hidden storage across large cupboards and drawers. The tone of the wood is particularly fine across its exterior surfaces and those centred feature handles are great.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. The piece has been cleaned, inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied and buffed on the external surfaces, but otherwise the finish is original. There are three drawers, all well-made with secure handles, clean interiors and they slide with ease. The top drawer is green baize lined. The central two door cupboard features and adjustable shelf. There is a small hole in the back of this section but this is only visible from the back – please see our photo. The left hand cupboard features a lined fall-door originally designed to be the drinks cabinet. All interiors are clean and tidy. There are light, superficial marks and scuffs to the exterior wood surfaces here and there, including a little sunlight fading on the top surface and some minor knocks on the legs, as shown. It’s well-made with no areas of concern or repairs to flag.
