Vintage 1970s Ercol Model 469 Tall Bureau / Serving Cabinet in Original Dark Finish

This is a classic piece of Ercol furniture from its vintage portfolio and its popularity endures. Originally designed in the 1960s and made through to the early nineties, this serving cabinet (its official Ercol title, designed to be wheeled to the dining table) is in great original condition, superbly crafted in solid wood.  It features a ‘fall’ pull-down door which reveals a sectioned, upper cabinet and the door creates a desk for working at or mixing drinks. Below is a spacious two-door cupboard with an adjustable shelf, and generous, lower single drawer underneath. This multi-functional, versatile piece of domestic furniture provides a lot of storage space and its clever design means it’s not overtly a drinks cabinet or bureau – it could be used in any room from kitchen to bedroom or study. This particular piece dates from the 1970s, with the blue label remnants just about visible, and the super dark finish is all original, called ‘Old Colonial’.

Description

This original, used piece is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good – very good, vintage condition. We have cleaned the cabinet inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but otherwise left the original, ‘Old Colonial’ factory finish alone as it’s in such great order. It features Ercol’s signature dovetail joints, just visible on its corners, and the doors and fall are fitted with full length hinges. The top cupboard interior is sectioned with two adjustable shelves and is in clean, tidy order inside. The lower two-door cupboard has a single adjustable shelf. The hinges and closures are in good working order. There is a full width drawer at the bottom which slides with ease and it sits on the original shepherd castors to give good mobility, the original idea being it could be rolled to the dining table. All interior spaces are in good, clean order, with just minor signs of use. Likewise, the exterior wood is in good – very good order too, with only light marks here and there in line with its age and purpose. The top surface has probably endured the most wear and tear with some light scuffs and fading but we feel this is in line with its age and would describe this has minor. The top cupboard handle has been repaired at some point but it’s been cleanly done with the pieces slotting back together.
