Vintage 1960s Walnut Extending Dining Table by Gordon Russell

A fine piece of quality British midcentury design, this rectangular dining table dates from the early 1960s and comes with an exemplary heritage – it was designed and made by Gordon Russell. Its proportions and design are neat and tidy, comfortably seating four people and making it ideal for the kitchen or small dining area. Pull out the extension which resides cleverly underneath the table top and insert in the middle to increase its capacity to six. Following our restoration, it’s the stunning wood grain that elevates this table from the everyday, with walnut stripes running the width of the table top meeting a different wood, most likely dark oak, border and legs.

Description

This authentic, vintage dining table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in very good, used condition. The table was acquired in a very scruffy state but has undergone quite the transformation during its restoration. It’s now in fantastic order. The extension sits discreetly underneath the table, accessed at one end by gently pulling it out and removing it entirely. The two halves of the table are pulled apart and the extension slots into the central space before the two sides are pushed back into place. Some light marks remain here and there to the table top and legs which can be seen across our photos. Overall these are minimal. The table is solid and stable with all mechanisms in good working order. The maker’s mark can be seen on the underside.
