Vintage 1960s Teak Tallboy Chest of Drawers by Meredew
As tallboy drawer chests go, this one is pretty special and something of a rarity. Made by British manufacturer, Meredew, and dating from the 1960s, it features seven graduated drawers so masses of storage here. Clean-lined and elegant with the richly striped teak wood grain being the star attraction, it will sit comfortably alongside furniture from other periods. It’s one of those pieces that looks of its day and modern at the same time. Its proportions are slim and tall, making it ideal for smaller bedrooms. A very fine piece of handsome British midcentury furniture.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall good – very good, used condition. It has been thoroughly cleaned and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood but otherwise the finish is original. It’s an expertly crafted piece of a very high quality construction, featuring beautiful dovetail joints and a ply back and drawer bases. All seven, graduated drawers are in good, tidy order internally and they slide with ease. There are some minor, light scuffs to the exterior wood here and there but these are line with the piece’s age. The handles are original and securely moored in place. The Meredew label is no longer there inside the drawer but the recessed circle where it would have been means we can attribute it to them with confidence.
