Vintage 1960s Tall Teak Sideboard / Bureau by Meredew

A solid, practical domestic piece from British maker, Meredew, this teak cabinet dates from the 1960s. It features two over two lower drawers giving you lots of storage space and the upper cabinet was originally intended as a bureau. Inside are pigeon holes for filing and organisation and the writing desk the drop-down door creates is wide and generous, ideal for home working. Of course, you wouldn’t be limited to using as a bureau. It’s actually a fine-looking, tall sideboard that would serve well in a dining room, family space or kitchen area. The top section could be used as a drinks cabinet too.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The four lower drawers are well-made with dovetail joints and securely attached brass handles. Their interiors are clean and tidy with minor scuffs and marks from use. The bottom drawer is a little stiff but should loosen up wit use. The upper section features a pull-down door which creates a large writing desk. Inside there are pigeonholes for organisation and storage. The hinges and closure for this section are in good working order and the interior clean and tidy as you can see. The exterior wood surfaces carry light signs of wear and tear, minor scuffs, dents and marks in line with its age and function – please refer to our photos. Overall, the wear and tear is light and in line with what we might expect with a vintage piece of this nature. The unit is well-made and the Meredew plate can be found in the back of one of the drawers.
