Vintage 1960s Herbert Gibbs Walnut & Teak Sideboard
It arrived scratched and in a sorry state but this vintage beauty has been a joy to bring back to life. Made by reputable British furniture maker, Herbert Gibbs, this credenza dates from the 1960s. Made in walnut and teak and using these two wood tones to great effect, the patination across the drawer fronts and external surfaces has been restored to its former glory. It looks outstanding. With six drawers, this sideboard offers a lot of useful storage and its compact, elegant design means it doesn’t need to be constrained to the dining room as sideboards historically were. This is one of those pieces of vintage furniture that straddles more conservative / traditional design and the midcentury aesthetic, and as such will mix comfortably into mixed style interiors.
Description
This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good – excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the piece inside and out and the exterior surfaces have been restored. The original finish has been carefully stripped and then it’s been lightly hand-sanded. Coats of a hard-wearing, satin oil have been applied, before a final beeswax polish and buff. There are light dents and scuffs here and there in line with its age and function but nothing to flag. All six drawers slide with ease and are in good, clean order inside. All nine brass handles are in good order and secure. The piece is very well made, solid and stable with no repairs or areas of concern. The Herbert Gibbs name plate can be seen on the back of the piece.
