Vintage 1960s Dunvegan Teak Extending Dining Table by McIntosh

A refined, rectangular midcentury dining table from AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, made in the 1960s and mixing Scandinavian design influence with more traditional British style. McIntosh furniture is synonymous with superior craftsmanship and top quality wood, and you can see that here across its restored table top and on the tapered legs that pour down to the floor. We love the elegant curved sides of this table, the fine detail of the edge and also its slender profile, a nice change from chunkier dining table models of the same period. The extension section is cleverly integrated underneath, hidden when not in use but when the extra space is required, the two sides simply pull apart and it folds out for a seamless, large table option that can comfortable accommodate eight diners.

Description

This authentic, vintage dining table is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good – very good, used condition. The table has been checked, cleaned and table top and extension section have been restored. This involved carefully stripping away the original finish, followed by oil and wax for a durable, consistent finish. The table border / base and legs have been buffed with a natural beeswax polish but otherwise the finish is original here. The extension is integrated and hidden underneath when not in use. It is accessed by pulling the two table halves apart and the extension then simply folds out and flattens. The two sides push back together to create a seamless table top. All mechanisms and hinges are in good working order. The extension is a touch darker than the two sides, a common issue with vintage tables. It’s simply because it’s been used less and hasn’t been as exposed to sunlight. Overall, the table is in good – very good order with just minor signs of use including a superficial scratch on the table top and two small veneer chip repairs on the table’s edge – please refer to our photos. Our restoration knocked this back significantly, it’s smooth to the touch but sadly still a little visible. It’s a well-made piece that’s robust and sturdy. The McIntosh label can be seen underneath. Do browse our numerous photos for an accurate sense of colour and condition. And you’re welcome to ask questions and view the item. Just ask.
