Vintage 1960s Avalon Tallboy Chest of Drawers with Integral Mirror
Here is a piece that looks both contemporary and midcentury. Manufactured by British maker, Avalon, it’s a tall, practical tallboy dresser in a golden, blonde wood with a fine horizontal pinstripe grain, punctuated with dark teak round handles. It dates from the 1960s and cleverly in the shallower top drawer, you’ll find an integrated, fold-up mirror so it serves as a place to get ready too. Other than a thorough check, clean and buff with a natural polish, the finish is all original, such is its great condition. Tallboys dressers like this are fantastic storage for smaller bedrooms or rooms where wall space is limited. If you haven’t got the width to go sideways, then the solution is to go up with a slimline chest of drawers like this.
Description
This original, vintage tallboy is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. It has been checked, cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is all original. It’s in fantastic shape. The six drawers slide with ease, are beautifully made with dovetail joints and all have clean, tidy interiors with minor signs of use. The top drawer is sectioned and on the left hand side is a fold-up mirror. Overall, there is just light wear and tear to the exterior wood surfaces including some sunlight fading and scuffs here and there but this is in line with its considerable age. Do browse our photos to get an accurate sense of its great condition. It’s well-made, solid and stable with no areas of concern. There is no maker’s mark in place sadly but we attribute this to British maker, Avalon.
