Vintage 1950s Mahogany ‘Pigeon Hole’ Freestanding Open Cabinet

Freestanding but not too tall and not too deep, this vintage, open-front ‘pigeon hole’ shelf unit is generous in width and can accommodate a great deal within its 36 cubby holes. Dating from the fifties and originally from a hotel reception designed for guests’ keys and mail, it’s very well-made and solidly constructed in mahogany (it’s really heavy!). It’s such a useful and characterful storage piece that could be put to good use in pretty much any room from kitchen to bathroom to hallway. Use for storage or showcasing treasures, or a bit of both, it will add old-fashioned charm wherever it goes.

Description

This original, vintage cabinet is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. It has been checked, cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. As you can see when you browse our photos, there are minor knocks and scuffs, particularly on the top surface but overall we would class this as light and in line with its age of 70+ years. It’s well-made – very solid and sturdy – and a heavy piece too, unsurprising as it’s mahogany.
