Vintage 1940s Oak Chest of Drawers

The design might not have bells and whistles but this no-nonsense, vintage chest of drawers comes with lots of history and charisma. It’s a 1940s, British piece, made to comply with the war-time utility scheme. This was at a time when resources, like wood, were scarce but the demand for essential goods like clothes and furniture continued. They had to be manufactured to strict austerity guidelines. Across its four drawers, there is a great deal of storage for clothes, linen or anything really.  It’s a really practical, rather traditional drawer chest that’s lasted a lifetime and more.

Description

This is an original, used piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, vintage condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out but otherwise the finish is original and as such comes with some marks, knocks and fading which can be seen across our photos. The four drawers slide with ease, are very well-made with dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors. All the handles are original and securely attached. The top surface has taken the brunt of the wear and tear as shown and the original varnish finish is a little patchy here and there but overall this is minor and in line with its age. It’s not very noticeable – do view our photos. It’s a well-made, CC41 utility piece that’s solid and stable with no repairs or areas of concern. No maker’s mark but British in origin. If you have any queries or would like to view this piece, please do get in touch.
