Unusual Midcentury 1960s Sideboard with Long Tapered Legs
There are so many elegant design details to this compact, stylish sideboard… the slender black handles; the long tapering legs; the heavy stripes of grain; the highly polished, lacquer finish and the different wood tones adding subtle accents to the base and borders. And yet still, we’ve not been able to attribute it! It dates from the 1960s and we believe it to be British in origin. Its tidy length and slim depth make this a great option for a smaller living or dining room but there is plentiful storage with a double door cupboard and drawers. Such a handsome piece.

Description
This is an original, vintage sideboard that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the external wood surfaces to revive the shine but otherwise the high gloss, lacquered finish is original. It features three drawers. They slide with ease, are well-made and have secure handles. The interiors are clean and tidy, but note the middle drawer has some superficial marks from use in the bottom, as shown. The top drawer is green baize lined and has a removable cutlery tray. The double door cupboard featured a full width, fixed cut-away shelf. The hinges, handles and closures are in good working order and the interior clean and tidy with just light signs of use. The exterior surfaces have minor knocks, chips and surface cracking to the lacquered finish. We have shown this across our photos. We’ve opted to leave this alone as remedying this wear and tear would involve stripping away all the original finish. We felt this was unwarranted and too invasive given that this wear is in line with its age and doesn’t jar greatly as it’s superficial. It’s reflected in our price though. It’s well-made, solidly crafted and stable. Frustratingly we’ve not been able to attribute it but it’s construction and design date it to the sixties and it’s most likely British in origin.
