Tall Midcentury Spindle Back Rocking Chair in Blond Wood

At a first glance you would be forgiven for thinking this is Ercol but it’s not. We’ve not been able to definitively attribute it but regardless, this is a beautifully crafted, highly original midcentury piece. We love the exaggerated U band of the arms that the back spindles pierce to join the seat. We love too the tall back and the generous seat width. Someone highly skilled made this rocking chair, a master craftsperson, expertly crafted with a great deal of technical know-how. Given the similarity to an Ercol Goldsmith rocker, it’s most likely British in origin, made in a combination of beech for the spindles and runners, and perhaps walnut for the seat. The rocking chair is hard to resist, a comforting, gentle presence in any room.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have cleaned it and applied a nourishing, all-natural beeswax polish. As you can see from our photos the wood is a little worn and marked here and there but overall this is light wear and tear. It’s structurally sound and solid, an expertly crafted piece.  There is no maker’s mark but we believe it to be British in origin and we believe it dates from the 1960s / early 1970s. Please browse our photos for a good sense of its order but any questions, please get in touch. Happy to help.
