Stunning Vintage Art Deco Walnut Sideboard / Dresser
The swirls and intricacies of the grain across this Art Deco sideboard are exquisite. A grand, rather stately piece, the design is elegant and beautifully crafted with lots of sophisticated features and flourishes… the subtly different tones and grain direction of the trim around the top edge alone is a joy to behold. There is one large, double door cupboard below with a fixed shelf inside, giving ample storage. There is an additional trim that screws in place on top, a spot for the carriage clock. We shown it with and without in our photos. It adds to its old-fashioned, distinctly deco design if that’s what you love but is perhaps less fussy without it for a more refined look. Either way, this is a dresser with masses of vintage charisma and character.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We have cleaned the sideboard inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish but otherwise left the original finish in tact. As you can see from our photos, it has a high shine French polish finish on the exterior surfaces. There are some minor chips and cracking here and there to it but overall we would say this is light and in line with the piece’s considerable age. The cupboard doors swing with ease on their hinges and the left hand door has upper and lower bolts inside in good working order. The interior is clean and tidy. The top trim can be easily screwed back in place. As you might expect the top surface has the most wear and tear with some sunlight fading and light patchiness. Please refer to our photos. It’s very well crafted, solid and sturdy. It’s a heavy piece. Sadly there is no maker’s mark but it’s British in origin and we believe it dates from the 1920s.
