Set of Six Original Vintage Ercol Goldsmith Chairs with Pair of Carvers

Ercol’s vintage Goldsmith chairs are among some of their most popular. Tall and elegant with the signature ‘moustache’ top, this set of six is comprised of four regular dining chairs and a pair of carvers with arms for the heads of the table. And we love the curve and upturn of the arms on the carvers in particular. They come in their original finish and date from the 1970s. Constructed with beech legs and English elm seats, they are solid wood so extremely robust and well-made. If you wished to fully restore them further down the line, you have that option but we can forgive the odd knock and scuffs. It’s part of their vintage appeal. This set would look just as at home around a rustic country kitchen table as they would a mid century inspired dining room.

Description

This original, vintage set of chairs is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, all six chairs are in good, used condition. We have given the chairs a thorough check, clean and polish with a natural beeswax but otherwise we have left their original finish alone so there is some variance chair to chair, primarily between the finish of the carvers where one has clearly been more used than the other. Across the chair set, there are superficial scuffs and marks here and there, as you might expect with furniture of this age and purpose, including a scratch on the top back of the carver which we’ve shown in our photos. Overall though, we would class the wear and tear on the chairs as light and minor. They are superbly crafted, stable and sturdy with no repairs. The blue label is affixed to the back of five out of six of the chairs and they are stamped underneath.
