Set of Six 1960s Teak Dining Chairs by Ib Kofod Larsen for G Plan
Renowned Danish designer, Ib Kofod Larsen, collaborated with British maker in the 1960s, producing the ‘Danish’ range for them. This set of six teak dining chairs hails from this period. His designs for G Plan have stood the test of time and are still highly-prized today, snapped up by midcentury collectors. This particular chair model went on to have an curved upholstered back rest, more commonly seen, but we love this earlier version with its slightly winged top corners. The black leatherette seat pads are all original and in great order with much left to give. And of course wipe-clean vinyl is a good choice for lively dinner tables, perhaps with youngsters. Equally though, if you wished to upgrade the seats, this is a very straightforward job for an upholsterer. They are a beautifully designed and well-crafted set where consideration has been given to every aspect of their use from the generous width of the seat to how they look from the back when tucked in around the table.
Description
This original, vintage set of six chairs is ‘sold as seen’. All six chairs are in good, used condition. The teak chair frames have been checked, cleaned and wax polished but otherwise the finish is all original. There are light signs of wear to the wood primarily on the inside back rests with some slightly worn patches at the edges – please see our photos. The original black leatherette / vinyl seat pads are in good shape given their considerable age. There were some minor cracks and tiny nicks on the front edge corners of each chair, the two points that bear the brunt of wear and tear. We have repaired and coloured these with specialist vinyl filler and as you can see from our photos, they are barely noticeable. The flexible, durable filler should also prevent further deterioration. You may opt to have the seat pads recovered at some point. This is an easy and inexpensive job for an upholsterer. The chairs are very well-crafted, stable and with no wobbles or joint concerns. Sadly the original G Plan labels are no longer in place but this is a very well-documented model so we attribute with 100% confidence.
