Set of Four Vintage Danish Teak Dining Chairs by Glostrup Mobelfabrik
This fine set of four teak dining chairs have such a distinctive design. It’s taken quite the investigation to attribute them. We initially thought they were British in origin but we’re now confident they’re Danish, made by Glostrup Modelfabrik and date from the 1960s. They’re top quality with a heavy, solid construction but despite their stocky, wide stance, there are some superb details. The wave of the side bars and the contours of the wooden back are beautiful. They have been reupholstered in recent years in a neutral, pale textured fabric that has a hint of green to it. The light fabric actually complements the rich, warm teak well and it’s in fantastic order but it would be an easy inexpensive job to recover them if it didn’t suit. It would be worthwhile as they’re a super set with provenance and heritage.
Description
This original, set of four dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. They are all in very good, used condition. We have checked and cleaned the solid teak frames with a natural beeswax polish. We believe they have been recovered in recent years as the textured cream fabric and base finishing cloth is very clean and new. There are very minor signs of use to the wood, just light scuffs and knocks, primarily on the legs, but nothing to flag. They are superbly constructed, solid and sturdy with no wobbles or creaks. Sadly the maker’s label is no longer underneath but we have found documented examples of exactly the same model so attribute with confidence. It dates from the 1960s and were made by Danish manufacturer, Glostrup Mobelfabrik. Please do browse our photos for a good sense of their condition and order. Any questions, just get in touch.
