Set of Four Original 1960s Ercol Model 400 Windsor Dining Chairs

A rescued quartet of early 1960s Ercol Windsor dining chairs, we have stripped and restored them as sensitively as possible without removing their character and life. They come with bumps and knocks still but we love their rustic, old fashioned charm. Their design is smaller and less fussy than the later 400 Windsor models. With just four back spindles and a more compact seat width, their proportions are neat so ideal for a smaller table. Ercol made furniture to last and the fact these chairs are 60+ years old and still solid and stable proves that. They have much to offer and would be as at home in a midcentury dining room as they would around a homespun country kitchen table.

Description

This set of four original, vintage dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. They are in good, used condition and they have been partially restored. They have been checked, cleaned and stripped to remove the original finish and some of the superficial marks and scuffs, and then oiled, waxed and polished, with care taken to ensure that not all their character is stripped away. There are still knocks and scuffs which can be seen across our photos so do have a good browse. You will note some small gaps on a couple of the chairs where the main hooped back joins the seat. It should be noted that there are no wobbles or concerns at these points. The wood has just shrunk a little with age and use so the joins have opened a touch but they are stable with no movement or wobbles. The nature of the wear and tear is very much in line with the chairs’ age and function, part of their appeal in our view. One of the chairs has the original Ercol sticker in place on the back and they are stamped underneath.
