Set of Four 1950s Vintage Gordon Russell Oak Dining Chairs
Designed by WH ‘Curly’ Russell in 1954, these model 6409 and 6408 dining chairs (three regular and one carver) were made for Heals by Gordon Russell. Thoughtfully crafted in solid oak, their design is traditional and midcentury in equal measure so great for mixing and matching with other styles and schemes. We love the centred back spindles and the gentle tapering of the legs. They come in great condition and if the neutral green upholstery doesn’t suit, it would be an easy and worthwhile job to recover these fine, vintage, British chairs that come with an excellent pedigree.
Description
This set of four original, vintage dining chairs is ‘sold as seen’. They are in good – very good, used condition. The set is comprised of three regular dining chairs and one carver. The solid oak chair frames have been cleaned, a high quality natural wax applied and then polished. All four chair frames are in good condition with no wobbles, repairs or joint concerns. The seat pads are covered in a pleasing, sage green, velvet fabric. We don’t know if this is the original upholstery (it’s most likely been changed at some point) but it’s in very good order with no tears, marks or threadbare areas. If you wished to change the fabric, it would be an easy and inexpensive job for a professional. The chairs are superbly crafted, solid and stable. Sadly there are no longer maker’s labels in place but the design is well known and we attribute to Gordon Russell with confidence. Please refer to our photos for a good sense of their used condition. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
