Rare Vintage 1960s Finnish Amber Glass & Copper Pendant Lampshade by Nanny Still for RAAK

Something rather special and unusual, a vintage amber glass and copper pendant lampshade with great provenance and history. Nanny Still (1926-2009) was a Finnish designer, specialising in glass, creating cutting edge, high-end homeware and decorative objects for the home. Hugely influential on the midcentury scene, she designed at Finland’s Riihimäki Glassworks for many, many years and her pieces are highly prized these days by collectors. This particular piece was designed by her for RAAK, Netherlands, and dates from the 1960s. It is a solid amber glass inner that was blown directly into the outer copper shade. Consequently this is a heavy, substantial piece. Glass bubbles dome out of the copper shade around its rim for dramatic effect creating a silhouette not unlike a B movie UFO but the true glory is when the light is turned on and you’re bathed in a warm, golden glow that emanates from the glass bubbles and through the glass below. We love the Brutalist design, the bubbles within the bubbles and the patina of the dark copper. This is an outstanding and rare find.
