Rare Late 1950s Two Tone Dressing Table by John & Sylvia Reid for Stag
A particularly special vanity table by British midcentury furniture maker, Stag. Designed by John and Sylvia Reid, it hails from the 1950s and predates the Fineline range, its closest sibling in terms of design. A quick search will show you that this model very rarely comes onto the market and we don’t believe many were made so this is a catch. In our view the Reids were rather ahead of the time with their designs, particularly their ranges which blended metal elements with beautiful wood. Today, they still look contemporary and fresh but with a firm foot in the midcentury. Using the two different wood tones of teak and maple to great effect, there are striking accents and details. We love the border around the top, the tapered, inset legs and the silver handles. With much storage across six drawers and generous room for a chair or stool in the middle, the trio of mirrors can be angled to get just the right view.

Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. The piece has been cleaned, inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied and buffed on the external surfaces, but otherwise the finish is original. There are six drawers, all well-made with secure, original, metal handles, dovetail joins and which slide with ease. They have clean and tidy interiors. There is a fixed central glass shelf in very good order and the triptych of mirrors are in very good order too. The two outer mirrors can be angled vertically and the main one angled horizontally. All hinges and fittings for the mirrors are in good, working order. There are light, superficial marks and scuffs to the exterior wood surfaces here and there including a corner that has had a minor fill repair – please refer to our photo – but overall these are minor. The piece is in quite remarkable condition given its years. It’s extremely well-made and although the Stag label isn’t in place, it was acquired with matching other Stag items so we attribute with confidence. They are reliable and insured, and we have worked with them for many years. We have a weekly collection and onward delivery usually follows 1-3 days later.
