Rare Early 1960s Tallboy Chest of Drawers by John & Sylvia Reid for Stag
A super rare piece by renowned British midcentury furniture maker, Stag, we feel very lucky to have acquired this outstanding tallboy dresser. Designed by power duo, John & Sylvia Reid, this short-run collection predates their Fineline range of the early sixties. Using the two different wood tones of teak and maple to great effect, this chest of drawers looks midcentury and contemporary in equal measure. Minimalist overall but with accents and details that are striking and ahead of their time. We love the border around the top, the tapered legs and the slender silver metal handles. With a great deal of storage across six drawers, tallboys work well in compact spaces and bedrooms where wall width might not be available but height is.
Description
This is an original, vintage tallboy that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and used a natural beeswax polish on the external surfaces to restore some shine but otherwise the finish is all original and it’s in fantastic condition throughout with just very light, superficial scuffs and marks from use. The six graduated drawers slide with ease, are beautifully made with dovetail joints and have clean, tidy interiors. This is a very well-made piece that’s sturdy and solid with no areas of concern or repairs. The Stag maker’s mark can be found in one of the drawers.
