Pair of 1960s ‘Multi-width’ Bar & Corner Cabinets by Robert Heritage for Beaver & Tapley

A fantastic, midcentury pair of drinks cabinets from British maker, Beaver & Tapley, these were designed by Robert Heritage as part of their ‘Multi-width’ range, a modular suite of domestic furniture for the modern home. Although each piece is separate and functional in its own right, their design is complementary, furniture created to sit in the same space, set either apart or together for a coordinated look. This set is comprised of a large, illuminated cocktail cabinet featuring a Formica-topped mixing platform on the drop door. It’s mirror-backed and there’s a small fixed internal shelf for your drinks accessories, along with a working lock and key for this top section. This piece is accompanied by a rotating corner cabinet for stowing bottles and glasses. A quirky vintage pair that’s a lot of fun and perfect for the sociable house who likes a party.

Description

This original, vintage pair of cabinets is ‘sold as seen’. They are in fair – good, used condition. They have been checked, cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish has been applied to the exterior surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. The large drinks cabinet features a light which has been rewired and PAT tested. It has a mirrored back, small fixed shelf and a Formica-topped mixing area. There is a working lock and key for this section. Below is a double sliding door cupboard. All interiors are clean with light signs of use. The smaller corner cabinet features two rotating cupboards, designed for bottles and glasses. Both sections rotate with ease with closures in good order. Again the interior shows light signs of use, as shown. All the original brass handles are securely attached. The exterior surfaces do carry knocks and scuffs – it’s a little scruffy here and there but nothing glaring to flag. Overall, we would characterise this wear and tear as light and in line with its age and function but do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its condition. The maker’s labels are in place inside both cabinets. Both items are really well made as you would expect from Beaver & Tapley.
