Kokeshis are a Japanese symbol of good luck and good fortune. Traditionally crafted in wood, these beautiful dolls have an over-sized head and simplified, cylindrical bodies. With facial expressions ranging from sweet to bemused to happy to enigmatic, they are alluring, sculptural objects. Each one is unique and different to the next, and they are usually hand-painted in reds and blacks but this one is particularly special because it’s delicately engraved with no paint at all. A really unusual find with intricately carved, relief details and calligraphy. Display individually or group several together for a bigger, striking impact.

Description

This authentic, vintage kokeshi is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. It has been checked, carefully cleaned and polished with a natural beeswax, otherwise it is sold in its original condition so there are minor marks and scuffs, and a little sunlight fading.
