Original Midcentury Silver Ladderax Single Bay Modular Shelf System with Drawers

British maker, Staples, made modular Ladderax wall systems, incorporating shelves, desks, bookcases, drawers and more which can be configured however suits. Truly versatile, this single-bay, wall-leaning set is a fine example of a multi-functional piece of domestic furniture that delivers plentiful storage and display space. It incorporates a lockable chest of drawers with four shelves and this particular set has the seldom seen, original silver ladder uprights. This piece of classic, vintage midcentury furniture would work in any room in the modern home from lounge to bedroom, creating a statement. These single bays work particularly well in the alcoves by a chimney breast.

Description

This is an original, vintage modular piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. It has been cleaned and the teak elements polished with natural beeswax polish but otherwise the finish is original. The full inventory for this modular shelving system is:

In our experience, Ladderax systems are usually rather knocked and scuffed, partly because of their age and partly because of their function as a multi-purpose, high-use piece of furniture. This set has faired pretty well. The silver paint coating on the two ladders is chipped here and there, and has yellowed a little in places – see our photos. There are minor signs of wear and tear to the wooden elements, scratches and scuffs primarily to the front of the drawer unit – again refer to our photos for a good sense of condition. All three drawers have clean and tidy interiors and slide with ease. There is a working lock and key. The nature of this modular system means it can be configured in all manner of ways – we would recommend that there are two people on hand during assembly. The uprights of this particular set are wall-leaning, rather than free-standing.
