Original Midcentury Ladderax Single Bay Modular Shelf System with Desk

Truly versatile pieces of furniture, British maker, Staples Ladderax, made modular storage systems, incorporating shelves, desks, bookcases, drawers, corner units, drinks cabinets and more. These different elements can be configured in whichever way suits. This is a neat, single bay, featuring the later wooden ladders, is the shorter version. There is a pull-down writing desk cabinet and two open shelves. It’s designed to lean back against the wall but it doesn’t need fixing to it, a very clever piece of design engineering that’s strong and stable. Ladderax took inspiration from Danish modular furniture and this piece of classic, vintage furniture would work in any room in the modern home. It can also be combined with other Ladderax systems but this single bay would work brilliantly in a recess next to the chimney breast.

Description

This is an original, vintage modular piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. It has been cleaned and the teak shelves and cabinet polished with natural beeswax polish. The full inventory for this modular shelving system is:

2 x Tall Ladder Uprights (H: 164cm / D: 37.5cm)
1 x Bureau Cupboard (W: 89.5cm / H: 40cm / D: 40.5cm)
2 x Shelves
6 x Metal Support Rods

There are some marks and scuffs on the wooden shelves and cupboard but these are superficial and minor, in line with its age and the fact it’s an original, vintage piece. The bureau cupboard is in very good, clean order inside with pigeon holes. It has a working lock and key. There are some knocks around the handle – please see our photo. Pull down door opens and closes with ease with the hinges in good working order. The nature of this modular system means it can be configured in all manner of ways – we would recommend that there are two people on hand during assembly.
