Original 1970s Midcentury Danish Deep Brown Leather Armchair by Trygg Mobler
A supremely comfortable, classic midcentury armchair that combines soft, feather-filled deep brown leather with a wonderfully engineered bentwood frame to create a statement piece. The cushion sits in a canvas sling that’s anchored to the wooden frame with adjustable leather straps and buckles, an unusual, quirky feature and a signature design twist from Trygg Mobler, also seen on its more well-known Superstar chair. It dates from the 1970s and comes with a fantastic pedigree. Don’t stick this chair in the corner – it’s a joy to behold from all sides.
Description
This original, used chair is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good , vintage condition. The single sectioned leather cushion has been cleaned and nourished. The leather’s soft, supple and thick (it’s very good quality, aniline leather), the inners are feather-filled and there are working zips. The cushion attaches to the sling seat with a zip at the top and Velcro along the front seat edge, although it should be noted the Velcro has lost its ‘stick’. It has no bearing on the look or feel of the chair, and the cushion doesn’t move out of place but you may wish to remove or replace it. The sling seat is in very good order and is held in place on the wooden frame with four leather belt straps and buckles at the corners of the chair. As you can see in our photos, the leather shows signs of aging here. We have cleaned and nourished it. All the original stitching is secure though and the aging in just on the surface. It’s very much part of the chair’s character and charm in our view. The wooden frame has been cleaned and a natural beeswax polish has been used. It’s beautifully engineered, stable and with no joint concerns or repairs. There are scuffs and marks to the wood here and there as you might expect. The two arms are a little faded through use and we have shown them in our photos. One minor thing to call out is a bolt cover is missing from one bolts at the lower back of the wooden frame – shown in a photo. It’s location means it’s barely visible. There is no maker’s label but this is a very fine quality, well-documented chair that we attribute with confidence to Trygg Mobler and was made in the seventies.
