Original 1960s Midcentury Nathan Low Teak Sideboard / Media Unit

From British maker, Nathan’s sweet spot in the 1960s comes this dapper low and long sideboard. It packs lots of practical storage into its length with drawers, a drinks cabinet and a double door cupboard. Originally designed for the dining room, this would serve just as well in a lounge, living room or TV room as the piece that can readily accommodate the television and media paraphernalia. Midcentury furniture suitable for the TV on top is probably some of our most requested and actually a tricky find as most conventional sideboards are too high but this is perfect. The drinks cabinet has the depth for vinyl too so could be repurposed for this with room for your turntable on top. The design is clean – we love the discreet cut-away handles – and minimalist, and this is to let the rich patination of the teak grain take the limelight.

Description

This original, vintage piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. The sideboard has been checked and thoroughly cleaned throughout with a hard wax oil applied to the exterior surfaces, followed by a natural beeswax polish. All three, graduated drawers slide with ease, are well constructed with dovetail joins, and are in good, clean tidy order inside. The top drawer is sectioned and lined, intended for cutlery. The central drinks cabinet has a fall-door, black Formica-lined for mixing on. The double door cupboard features a fixed shelf. All interiors are clean and tidy with hinges and closures in good working order. The exterior wood is in very good order with just very light, minor marks and scuffs here and there, in line with its age. It’s stable and solid, well-made and with no signs of repair, and dates from the 1960s. The Nathan maker’s mark is inside the top drawer.
