Midcentury Danish Large Extending Teak Dining Table by Gudme Mobelfabrik

A classic, Scandinavian, midcentury dining table, beautifully crafted and thoughtfully designed by Gudme Mobelfabrick and dating from the early 1970s. It has three modes from a neat, compact round to a large, impressive oval that measures over 2 metres in length when fully extended. The teak is richly patterned and warm in tone and the overall design pared back, simple and elegant. The two extension sections are separate. They are easily inserted into the table by pulling the two sides apart. The mechanism for this and the craftsmanship involved is superb – see our photo of the underside of the table. This piece is ideal for a sociable home that might not have the day to day room for a really expansive table but at key social gatherings, there is capacity to have a table large enough for 8-10 guests. It gives you much versatility.

This is an original, vintage table that is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good – excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned this piece and applied a natural wax polish but otherwise the finish is all original. The table has three sizes – round, partially extended oval and fully extended oval. There are two accompanying extension sections which are separate pieces. To extend, the two sides easily pull apart, one or both extension sections are slotted in and the two sides pushed back for a seamless table top. The two extension sections are a touch darker than the main table top, a common thing with vintage tables – refer to our photos. This is quite simply because they have had less use and exposure to sunlight. All mechanisms, catches and runners are in very good order, working with ease. There are very minor scuffs, surface scratched and knocks here and there but nothing to flag. Overall, this very fine, vintage table is in cracking order which our photos reflect. The maker’s stamp is in place underneath along with ‘Made in Denmark’.
