Midcentury Danish 1970s Teak Shelf Unit with Drawers by Feldballes Mobelfabrik
Freestanding, multi-functional units, such as this smart, 1970s, Danish piece by Feldballes Mobelfabrik, are really versatile as they negate the need for built-in shelves and provide plentiful storage and display space. Tall but shallow, this teak model features an open, upper bookcase where two of the three shelves are adjustable, and a lower chest of drawers. It’s a two-part unit where the top section simply sits on the base with discreet dowels mooring it in position. No tools required! Clean lines, midcentury simplicity, form and function are all here.
Description
This original, used shelf unit is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, vintage condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior surfaces but otherwise the finish is original and in good condition overall. The top section slots securely onto the base section with hidden dowels on either side. The top section features three shelves, the central shelf is fixed and the other two are adjustable. The base section features a chest of drawers. All four drawers slide with ease in their runners. have clean, tidy interiors and are well-made with dovetail joints. There is a clumsy looking repair to the back left corner of the base section – please see our photos. Whilst it doesn’t look very pretty, it’s actually very solid and stable with no areas of concern. Furthermore, it’s not particularly visible as it’s mostly hidden when the top section is in place on the base – again, refer to our photos showing each side. To this end, we’ve made the call not to disturb it and redo the repair as this would just be for aesthetic purposes. There is a small chip at the back of the left side base panel which can be seen in our images, and on right side base panel there is an area of sunlight fading. Overall the wear and tear is light and not very noticeable, in line with what we might expect to see on a piece of this age. The back of the piece is stamped ‘Made in Denmark’ and it was attributed at source to Feldballes Mobelfabrik.
