Midcentury Danish 1970s Freestanding Shelf Unit / Record Cabinet by Feldballes Mobelfabrik

Freestanding, multi-functional units, such as this handsome, 1970s, Danish piece by Feldballes Mobelfabrik, are really versatile as they negate the need for built-in shelves and provide plentiful storage and display space. Tall but shallow, this teak model was designed with records and a turntable in mind. The base section features upright dividers for vinyl and room on top for your record player. The top section features three shelves where two are height adjustable for further storage. It’s a two-part unit where the top section sits on the base with discreet dowels mooring it in position. No tools required! These pieces work particularly well in alcoves or the recesses by a chimney breast.

Description

This original, used shelf unit is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, vintage condition. We have checked and cleaned the piece, applying a natural beeswax polish but otherwise the finish is original and in good condition overall. The top section slots securely onto the base section with hidden dowels on either side. The top section features three shelves, the central shelf is fixed and the other two are adjustable. The base section is designed for vinyl with three fixed dividers on either side and an open central section with two adjustable / removable shelves. There is a little sunlight fading along with some minor scuffs and marks here and there but we would consider the wear light and minimal – overall it’s in good condition. Note: there are four small drilled holes at the back of the top section. They look to be original, possibly intended for wires. Do browse our photos for a good sense of its condition. The back of the piece is stamped ‘Made in Denmark’ and it was attributed at source to Feldballes Mobelfabrik. It’s well-made, stable and solid.
