Midcentury 1960s Tall Slim Teak Writing Desk Bureau

Less space-hungry than a conventional desk, vintage bureaus are enjoying a renaissance with folk working from home, either occasionally or all the time. This is a particularly unusual midcentury one because of its tall but slender stature and it dates from the late sixties / early seventies. It comes with a glass-front bookcase and generous lower cupboard. The fall door drops to create an ample-sized desk area and there are further cubby holes for storage and organisation inside. Pull up a chair, pull down the desk door and you’re set to focus and work. And then when the work day is done, the door can be closed. Bureaus are great options for kids’ / students’ rooms too to help them get organised with a dedicated but discreet work station.

Description

This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece thoroughly inside and out, applying a natural beeswax polish but otherwise leaving the original finish alone as it’s in such good order. There is a bookcase at the top with an adjustable shelf inside and a clean, tidy interior, and glass doors that slide easily in their runners. The fall door drops to create the desktop and inside there are pigeon holes for storage and organisation. The lower cupboard features sliding wooden doors in good, working order and an adjustable shelf inside. All hinges, closures, handles and interiors are in good order. The exterior wood is in good order with light scuffs and marks here and there, but nothing specific to flag. The piece is sturdy and solid with no signs of repair.
