Midcentury 1960s Meredew Teak Dressing Table with Stool
It’s not often we source dressing tables as complete sets with their matching stool so we were delighted to come across this pair, especially in such excellent condition. Meredew made affordable domestic furniture for the average British home. Well-made, using good quality veneered teak, and fashionably designed, years on, this dressing table now has lots of vintage charm. There’s no question about its sixties origins. There are some lovely design features here. The centred, contoured handles, the rounded mirror frame, the side mirrors that angle in with a wooden knob, the H -form of the cylindrical legs. It’s a very well-balanced piece too with lots of open space around it, a trick that makes a large items of furniture less cumbersome. The mirror can be easily removed by unscrewing the brackets if you wished to repurpose this as a desk. A very fine British midcentury piece.

Description
This is an original, vintage dressing table set that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in overall very good – excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the dressing table and applied a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces. All seven drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and are in good, clean order throughout. There are some very minor superficial marks and scuffs to the external wood surfaces. These are not noticeable and are in line with what we would expect considering this piece’s age and function. These don’t detract from its considerable appeal. There are many photos which show the super condition of the wood throughout. There are three separate mirrors, each set within a wooden frame. The main central mirror can be tilted at the bottom to create an angle. This is done via a hinge at the back which is in good working order. The two side mirrors can be angled when the mirror is set in its most upright position. The whole mirror section can be removed by unscrewing the two brackets at the back. There is large accompanying footstool has the original black vinyl upholstery. Although structurally sound and a lovely thing, sadly one of the buttons has been torn out so cannot be easily replaced. It’s perfectly functional as it is and you might choose to recover the stool at some point, an easy job for an upholsterer. Overall this is a really well made, solidly constructed set with no signs of repair. The Meredew maker’s stamp can be seen inside the top right drawer and it dates from the 1960s. Please browse our photos for an accurate sense of the overall superb condition.
