Midcentury 1960s Early G Plan E Gomme Teak Drinks Cabinet Sideboard

A rare and very handsome, early 1960’s piece from E Gomme for G Plan, this doubles up as a drinks cabinet and high board, offering lots of storage space for the modern home. It’s a beautifully balanced, considered piece of design and you can see the Scandinavian influence that was making a big impression on high-end British furniture of the 1960s.  This large piece of furniture is softened with curves, clean lines and long, tapered legs, giving it a lightness and elegance, compared to the more traditional low and long midcentury sideboards. See how the different wood tones of teak and afromosia are used to make a subtle note of distinction.  A rare, collectable find that, as you would expect from G Plan, is superbly constructed and has many decades of life left to give.

Description

This is an original, vintage cabinet that is ‘sold as seen’. Overall, it is in excellent, used condition. We have thoroughly cleaned the piece and applied a natural beeswax polish but have otherwise left the original finish alone, such is its excellent order. The two drawers slide with ease and the interior wood is in clean, tidy order. The top drawer is felt-lined and has removeable sections for cutlery. The drop-down door drinks cabinet features a curved shelf with interior wood in clean, tidy order. The hinges and closures here are in good, working order too. The large two door cabinet features two height adjustable shelves. Again, the interior wood is clean and tidy, and the closures and handles in excellent order. There are some very minor scuffs and marks on the exterior wood in line with its age and purpose, but these are not particularly noticeable with nothing to call out. It’s an extremely well-made, practical piece of storage furniture that’s solidly constructed with no signs of repair. The original gold E Gomme stamp can be seen in the drawer.
