Midcentury 1960s Bedroom Set of Chest of Drawers & Bedside Cabinet by White & Newton

A seldom seen range from British midcentury furniture maker, White & Newton, this matching compact chest of drawers and neat bedside cabinet pair were designed by Arthur Edwards and they date from the early sixties.  The design is classic MCM with crisp lines and sharp angles accentuated by the shadow gap detail across the fronts and the minimalist steel handles. These pieces are available individually, listed separately but we wanted to offer them as a set too as we acquired them.

Description

This original, vintage pair is ‘sold as seen’. Both pieces are in good – very good, used condition. They have been checked, cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is all original. The chest of drawers has four drawers (the lower two drawers are actually one double height drawer) which slide with ease, are beautifully made with their original metal handles securely attached and they have clean, tidy interiors. Overall, there is just light wear and tear to the exterior wood surfaces in line with the piece’s age. The nightstand has an upper drawer which slides with ease, is nicely made with its original metal handle securely attached and it has a clean, tidy interior. The lower cupboard is also in good, clean order inside with a secure handle too. Overall, there is very minor wear and tear to the exterior surfaces including a small knock to the top front edge which we have shown. Do browse our images to get an accurate sense of their super condition. They are very well-made, solid and stable with no areas of concern. The maker’s label can be seen in the bedside cabinet.
