Large Vintage G Plan Fresco Shelf Storage Wall Unit

Designed by VB Wilkins for G Plan, as part of his late sixties / seventies ‘Fresco’ range, this large, double width freestanding unit serves as storage and shelf space in one. Tall and wide but shallow in depth, it’s a multifunctional piece incorporating lower cupboards, a fall door drinks cabinet, a glass front bookcase and open shelves. Indeed, you could create a stunning, statement feature wall with this piece. It’s comprised of three parts – two upper shelf sections which sit on top of the wide, low base unit. It comes in fantastic original condition and it’s a British midcentury classic.

Description

This is an original, vintage unit that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have checked, cleaned and polished this piece, applying a natural beeswax polish to the exterior wood surfaces but otherwise the finish is original. It’s a three part, freestanding piece where the two upper shelf sections rest on the base unit. Brackets and screws are provided to secure the upper units to the base. The left upper unit in our photo features a fall-door drinks cabinet with a mirrored interior and a contoured glass shelf that’s adjustable. There is an internal light which has been rewired and PAT tested. There is a further wooden shelf above the cabinet which is also height adjustable. The right upper unit features a glass front bookcase with an adjustable shelf inside. The glass doors slide with ease and the interior is clean and tidy. There is a further wooden shelf below that’s also adjustable. The double-width base unit features two cupboards both with adjustable shelves and clean interiors. The doors, hinges, handles and closures are in very good order. There are some light knocks and marks to the exterior surfaces and shelf tops but this is very minor – please refer to our photos. Obviously you could opt to swap which side the upper units are on. Overall, the wear and tear is light and in line with what we might expect with a vintage piece of this age and nature. The G Plan label can be seen on top of one of the upper units. It’s well made with no signs of repair or areas of concern. Do browse our numerous photos for an accurate sense of colour and c0ndition.
