Large Midcentury 1960s Danish Rosewood Bookcase / Shelf Unit by Brouers Møbelfabrik
Such a versatile piece, this handsome, rosewood open bookcase / display unit is freestanding, elegantly designed and big. Danish in origin, it dates from the 1960s and is attributed to Brouers Møbelfabrik. For all that the look is classic Scandinavian MCM, simple and clean, there are some lovely details like the deep beveled edge; the low, double width shelf; and the slightly inset, upper shelves. Little, thoughtful details that break up the lines and make it less boxy. Move around the shelves to suit your storage and display needs. The width of this piece could create an impactful and impressive statement wall or feature in your room, but the depth of just 30cm means it won’t impose.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in very good, used condition. We have cleaned the unit and applied a light natural beeswax polish but otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s in such good order. There are four height-adjustable shelves, two on each side. They sit on shelf pegs and can be easily moved up or down. All the shelves and interior wood are in very good order with only very light marks from use, nothing to flag. Similarly the exterior wood on the sides and the tapered legs are in very good order too. There are some minor signs of wear here and there including a faint ring mark, on the top surface, only apparent when the light hits it – please see our photo. It’s very well-made, a solid and stable piece. Note: it’s a heavy, large item and only the legs and shelves can removed for manoeuvring. The original Brouers Møbelfabrik maker’s label can be seen on the back of the piece. Do browse our photos for a good sense of condition and colour. Any questions, just get in touch.
