Large British 1960s Midcentury Teak Sideboard by Remploy
If you’re looking for the archetypal, classic, long MCM sideboard at a good value price, then this certainly ticks the boxes. Made by British maker, Remploy, it dates from the 1960s and packs in masses of storage space across three drawers and three cupboards, and with a width over 1.8m. The design is considered and thoughtful, so very important on large pieces of teak furniture where subtle details soften the proportions of the block of brown wood. Here, the front and sides are very gently bowed and there is a bevelled edge along the front. Note how the front legs are ever so slightly splayed and the cut-away detail of the integrated handles. All in all, it’s in great, original condition.

Description
This original, vintage sideboard is ‘sold as seen’. Overall it is in good, used condition. The piece has been cleaned, inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied and buffed on the external surfaces, but otherwise the finish is original. As such it does come with minor flaws and light wear and tear both inside and out – superficial scratches, dents and scuffs here and there, which can be seen across our photos. After careful consideration, we made the call not to restore it, either partially or fully. There is that option but instead, we are offering this substantial piece in great order at a great price in clean, tidy condition, with light wear commensurate with its age. The three upper drawers are very nicely made with integrated lower handles and they slide with ease. Their interiors are lightly marked inside through use as we’ve shown but otherwise are clean and tidy, and the top drawer is sectioned, intended for cutlery. The two outer cupboards have secure handles, hinges and closures in good, working order and clean interiors, each with a recessed, adjustable shelf. The central cupboard is originally intended for drinks and the fall door creates a platform for mixing cocktails. The hinges are in good order and the inside is clean. The sideboard top bears the brunt of the wear and tear so do browse our photos for an accurate sense of its order. There is also a small chip to the corner of the right hand drawer handle – again, this is shown in our photos. This sideboard is well-made, thoughtfully designed and very solid. There is no maker’s sticker in place but this is a well-documented design by Remploy. Do browse through our photos for an accurate sense of its condition.
