Handsome Low Midcentury 1960s Chest of Drawers by AH McIntosh
A nicely proportioned storage piece with a low profile from highly reputable furniture maker, AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy, this four drawer chest dates from the 1960s, originally designed for the bedroom. It’s beautifully crafted in teak as you would expect from McIntosh – we love the delicate, tapering legs and the subtly curved lower edge, softening the lines of an otherwise boxy piece. The design is neutral and minimal which means it can mix with pieces of different styles and eras easily. A great example of top quality, British midcentury furniture.
Description
This is an original, vintage piece that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the piece inside and out, and polished the exterior surfaces with a natural beeswax polish. The four drawers are well constructed with dovetail joints, their original wooden handles and they slide with ease on their runners. They all have clean, tidy interiors. There are light signs of wear and tear inside and out as you would expect with a vintage piece of this age and function. Just minor knocks to the finish here and there, including a small filled area on the top as shown in our photos. Sadly there is no maker’s mark in place but it’s a well-known, 1960s model by AH McIntosh of Kirkcaldy acquired with a matching wardrobe so we attribute it with confidence.
