Grand Vintage Danish Tall Black Leather Wingback Armchair

A stately, classic Danish winged armchair with a tall back and sharp, chiseled good looks. It’s a rather imposing, grand piece with generous proportions that surround you when you relax into it. The ideal chair for a study or snug, perfect for curling up in with a good book and a scotch. Equally, this will mix well with other seats in a mixed style lounge or family space. And of course, vintage chocolate brown leather is a practical option for what is destined to become someone’s favourite chair. It’s in fantastic order with plump cushions, supple leather upholstery and solid wood legs legs.

Description

This original vintage chair is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in good – very good, used condition. We have cleaned the leather upholstery with a specialist, nourishing cleaner and applied a natural beeswax polish to the legs. The three cushions are in very good order with working zips, plump inners and no areas of concern, just light signs of use. The fixed upholstery on the frame is also in good order, hugging the contours of the frame wonderfully. There is a mark on the outside of one of the wings and a surface scratch on the bottom back by the leg – these are shown in our photos. Neither of these are particularly noticeable. Overall there are some wrinkles and light signs of wear to the leather upholstery but this is very much what you would expect from vintage leather and part of its appeal. There is a repair to the finishing cloth underneath the cushions, covered by the head rest cushion. Normally this cushion is held in place with a strip of Velcro. There is no sign of it here, possibly because of the repair patch which it should be noted is well affixed and secure. The top cushion does readily rest in place without falling forward but we’d be happy to add Velcro. The chair itself is well-made, solid and stable with no wobbles or joint concerns. Although no maker’s mark, this is a piece imported directly from Denmark.
