Classic Danish Black Leather Three Seater Sofa

A classic, Danish, black leather couch that stays true to the Scandinavian midcentury aesthetic of form and function in perfect harmony. At a glance the design is unfussy and simple but there are subtle bends and curves, like the outward bow of the arms, that add an elegance and softness to this clean-lined sofa. The proportions are perfect for family lounging at well over 2.1M in width, with a generous seat depth and plump, supple cushions all around. And we must mention the quality of the leather on this sofa – it’s exceptional, thick and robust with few signs of wear or use. This style of sofa can be tricky to definitively attribute… it’s obviously similar to Borge Morgensen but also Erik Marquardsen, Stouby and Erik Jorgensen. We believe it’s most likely a later Mogens Hansen model. Regardless, this sofa is a high-end piece of great quality.

Description

This original, vintage sofa is ‘sold as seen’. It’s in very good, used condition. The sofa has been checked and surface cleaned with a natural leather balm. All eight cushions are in very good order with plump inners and working zips.  The leather carries some light creases, wrinkles and minor marks from use but this is in line with what we would expect from vintage, used leather. The fixed leather upholstery on the frame is in very good order too, hugging the contours with no sagging. There are light scuffs here and there (do view our photos) and we have shown some specific marks along the top back edge where it’s been set against a wall but this most likely wouldn’t be on show and it’s not hugely noticeable anyway. The canvas underneath the seat cushions has some light tide marks but nothing unsavoury or jarring. The frame itself is solid and stable with no wobbles or joint concerns. The finishing cloth on the underside of the sofa has been removed. This happens frequently with sofas and chairs imported from Denmark as it enables the frame to be checked. As it’s underneath, this doesn’t show. It’s a very well-made, an authentic Danish piece that we believe is most likely by Mogens Hansen and we would date it to the late 1980s / early 1990s. We offer FREE LOCAL DELIVERY within a 15 mile radius of CB9 7XU – please get in touch prior to purchase to discuss. Alternatively, we can arrange fast, UK mainland delivery with our delivery partners who cover most of the country (please enquire for Scotland or remote addresses). They are reliable and insured, and we have worked with them for many years. We have a weekly collection and onward delivery usually follows 1-3 days later. Please be aware the delivery service we can offer does require some flexibility as the drivers work to predetermined routes with other delivery obligations, but they will keep you updated directly regarding their anticipated timings. You are also welcome to collect (we’re based in Haverhill, Suffolk) and we’re happy to hold pieces after purchase while you make collection arrangements and consider your options.
