Antique 19th Century Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Brass Handles

A grand, late 19th century chest of drawers in beautiful, richly toned mahogany with three large, deep drawers, giving ample storage space. The hanging brass handles are original and it sits on substantial, curved feet. This is a very old piece that comes scarred and bruised on all its surfaces – do browse through our photos for a good sense of this – but we love the imperfections of the antique timber and the history it holds. For all the marks and knocks, it’s very well-made in solid wood (it’s heavy!) and has already proved its longevity. Full of old-fashioned character and charm it has a great deal to offer.

Description

This antique, used piece is ‘sold as seen’. It is in fair – good, rustic condition. It has been cleaned inside and out, and a natural beeswax polish applied to the external wood but otherwise the original finish has been left alone. All three drawers slide with ease, feature dovetail joints and have the original brass handles securely in place. The interiors are clean and tidy. The base wood of each drawer is slatted and has small gaps, as shown. As you can see from our photos, the wood is marked, chipped and scarred across all its surfaces. We feel this only adds to the appeal of such an aged piece but we know this isn’t for everyone – please do browse our photos. The knocks and bruises are superficial and just skin-deep. Overall it’s well made, solid and stable. There is no maker’s mark but its origins are British.
