Antique 1920s Thonet Model No. 8 Bentwood Card Games Table with Drawers

What’s not to love about this wonderful, rare, old antique. It’s Austrian in origin, made by Thonet, who manufactured furniture for cafes, restaurants and bars, favoured on the streets of Vienna as one enjoyed coffee and cake there back in the early 20th century. The square, green baize table top is designed for four, each side featuring a discreet, lined scoop drawer. There is a further lined shelf underneath, useful for stowing drinks and games. We wonder how many arguments have kicked off around this antique square table! Designed originally for cards and gaming, this is one of those characterful pieces that can be useful in any room.

Description

This is an original, vintage table that is ‘sold as seen’. It is in good, used condition. We’ve cleaned it and applied a natural beeswax polish to the on-show bentwood but have otherwise left the original finish alone as it’s in such good order, understanding that the table is over 100 years old so there are marks and knocks commensurate with this. There are four curved card drawers on each side, hidden when pushed in. They slide with ease and are in good, clean order inside. The green baize on the table top, lower shelf and inside the drawers has been gently cleaned but there are minor marks and patches of wear which can be seen in our pictures. You could opt to have it professionally recovered at some point but we rather like this aging / patination that’s part of its history. There are no repairs or signs of damage to report, the table is well constructed and in sound, sturdy order.
